Milking It: Sunayah @SUNAYAH._
Interview by TMILKY
Introducing Sunayah: an eclectic DJ and style icon. Blending vibrant beats with bold fashion, she’s defining her unique space in music.
What’s your go-to milk?
Oat! It’s yummy, but controversially, I don’t mind cow’s milk too.
Talk to me about the evolution of your DJing.
I fell into it by overseeing some AZEEMA DJ workshops (in collaboration with Foundation FM a few years back), and it’s been a really fun avenue to navigate. Since then, I’ve played at a bunch of events across London and internationally for the first time at Sole DxB last December, which was really fun. I’d love to do more events like that! Musically, my taste has always been quite eclectic, but I’m definitely now learning what I actually prefer to play and the kinds of spaces I prefer to be in.
Can you tell us 3 life goals?
I’m indecisive, so here are 4: see as much of the world as possible; buy my family a house (or take them abroad); create/own a concept store; eventually get married and have cute babies, haha.
What’s your opinion on mentorships in the creative space?
I think they’re so necessary – learning from other people firsthand is one of the best ways to navigate the industry. Mentorship is basically like therapy (which I’m a huge advocate for) – anyone can benefit from it.
Talk to me about how you combine your style with your work!
When I’m not working from home or at a café, my days typically involve long shoot days and attending or DJing at fun events, so my wardrobe has to accommodate all of this. I usually wear something cute and comfy during the day, but I love dressing up when I can. I feel so naked without jewelry, though, so I always wear a lot.
