MILKING IT: OSSATURA @OSSATURALONDON

Interview by TMILKY

Introducing Ossatura, hottest new designers with sultry crafted pieces.

What milk goes into your drinks?

I drink Oat Milk but Hannah has decided it’s bad for you and gone back to cow’s milk…

How do you define success when the online space for fashion designers is just as competitive?

Success to us is when we receive a message from someone who has ‘dreamed’ of owning one of our designs, it’s pretty surreal. Although our business model is not fast and cheap, we don’t get disheartened when things are slow because when an order is placed it’s always something unique and exciting. It is an incredibly competitive industry but you can’t think about that for too long because it’s just depressing and no one can do what you are doing so we just try and focus on what makes us unique.

How do you cast models? What’s your creative process when it comes to shoots?

To be honest because budgets are small we have mostly used our gorgeous friends who aren’t professional models, but we have had a few models reach out to us which is exciting.

When planning shoots we always start with a good old Pinterst board, the feeling and aesthetic of the shoot is always inspired by the corset. It is also important we have learned to work with a stylist as they have a wider perspective.

Talk to me about why you do what you do.

We started Ossatura because we both love making clothes, we love fabrics, colours, shapes, photography, art, vintage, the list goes on. Both Hannah and I are both creative at the core so the only logical plan was to give our own label a stab, it’s hard but it’s worth it, we love what we do and it’s only going to get better as we learnt so much in our first year.

Tell me about a time you weren’t able to achieve a goal you had set out to win amongst your designing journey.

At the start of this year/the end of last year we decided we wanted to launch our second show (in 2024) but when we mapped out what was already in our pipeline we realised it physically wouldn’t be possible, especially to the level we would want it to be. But bring on 2025 - very excited for our 2nd show it’s going to blow our first out the water, we were newbs then.

How do you respond to criticism?

I guess we have had a healthy amount of parental criticism from our dads, but how satisfying will it be when Ossatura is a global name and we’ve ‘made it’. They love and support us but are definitely like ‘wtf are you doing’. Realising that everyone has an opinion when it comes to running a business (especially dads) we have learnt to go with what feels right for us . Even if we make a mistake and believe me we have made some along the way, that is where we’ve learnt the most and won’t be making those same mistakes again.

Does your personal dressing style coincide with your brand?

Yes and no. I love wearing colour so in that respect yes but I definitely dress for comfort 99% of the time, however Hannah loves wearing corsets any chance she gets. But we are hoping to broaden our design scope soon so I am sure Hannah and I will be wearing everything we make! What we design is our style so we are basically making our own dream wardrobe.

What was the most crucial step for you when it came to brand curation?

We knew exactly how we wanted our brand to feel, it was about curating visuals to perfectly represent that. This is something we are still working on, it evolves as Ossatura grows and our next collection will be a very crucial time for us as it will solidify so much more who we are as a brand.

Sum up your brand in a sentence or two. But, it has to rhyme.

Breathtaking pieces made by two,

Unique and gorgeous just for you.
