MILKING IT: FIZA SALIM @FIZASALIM_
Interview by TMILKY
Introducing Fiza. Model. Architect Baddie. Soft, warm aura wrapped in a showstopping face.
What milk goes into your drinks?
Soya but if it’s a matcha coconut only duh!
Shoot me the first word that comes to you after each phrase.
Design. Experimentation
Structure. Discipline
Routine. Self-Love
What goals have you set for yourself when it comes to your career online?
Publishing content (in whatever form that may be) that is created in alignment with my most authentic and expressive self. I create what I feel, and also don’t like to bound myself to one specific identity. I aim to attract people who resonate with how I see the world and portray in which way I re-imagine this through my content. Whether it’s architectural process documentation, design experimentation or purely posting hot images. It’s all done with intention.
I know architecture means a lot to you - talk to me about how that came to be.
It’s crazy that it means a lot to me now, when it was purely a last minute decision after A levels deciding what I wanted to study at university. I grew up as an academic weapon, so fiza math was knowing I needed something that would apply my academic brain yet also nurture my creative side, I put 2 and 2 together and boom I just went with architecture. I’ve learnt to shift what architecture means to me and how I ensvisage it re-altered to my obsessions and aims.
What’s the similarities between studying architecture and being involved in the fashion world?
Fashion design and architecture are so intrinsically interconnected which a lot of people don’t necessarily talk about. Structure, form, textures and materiality can be generated through an architectural lens and transferred into fashion creation. It’s really powerful designing with this perspective and intention, it transcends the conventional boundaries of fashion and allows for the creation of performative forms that won’t necessarily look like a “wearable” at first glance.
Talk to me about why you do what you do.
It’s all about following your highest most esoteric obsessions and pursuing your enigmatic interests. It’s exciting not knowing what something in your life could lead to, yet likewise, the possibility of what it could look like. Getting comfortable with the unknown as that’s where the real growth + exciting experiences happen. I like to implement having fun with whatever I do, even if it’s the most soul crunching academic deadline work, its all about how you perceive and engage with it accordingly to your own interests.
Design is riveting. Art is forever. What moves you emotionally?
Art exists within everything, for me I truly value the sense of interconnection I form through this perspective, whether it’s with other individuals or the world around me in my day to day life; everything is a reflection of yourself and what you notice in these ‘other things’ also exists within you which I think is really special.
What can you credit in your routine for where you are in life?
Specific to my routine I really just be doing what’s best for myself unapologetically at all times. l’ll definitely credit myself for my focus and self discipline; this desire to constantly unlock new potentials within myself and work towards a destination of a ‘next’ thing.
Definitely still just the beginning of a new chapter with a lot to learn and delve into, but the journey is forever re-routing which is the most unknown yet fulfilling part.
